Where is Currumbin Alley
Where is Currumbin Alley? Situated along the coastline, just ten minutes north of the Gold Coast Airport, you’ll find this famous surf break nestled between Tugan and Palm Beach. Travel along the Gold Coast Highway, and make a turn just south of the Currumbin Bridge. You’ll find the Alley at the point where Currumbin Creek meets the sparkling Pacific Ocean.
About Currumbin Alley
Whether you want to learn to surf, or you are already a pro, Currumbin Alley has a lot to offer. Closer to Currumbin Creek there are perfect waves for beginners just starting out. You’ll find long sand-bottom tubes ideal for longboards, or learner boards. The point break creates a lovely right-hander off Currumbin Rock.
Surfing Services run learn to surf programs that will get you riding waves in no time. They also offer SurfGroms school holiday programs, as well as elite coaching for high performance athletes looking to fine-tune their skills.
The calm, shallow water on the creek side is the perfect place for younger kids to swim and play. The calmer waters create the perfect opportunity to test out your skills at stand up paddleboarding. When you are ready to relax, you can choose between a picturesque stretch of white sand or green grassy spaces along the coast for a picnic.
Palm Beach Reef
Just a short distance north of our Gold Coast resort, you can find the beautiful Palm Beach reef. Popular for fishing, snorkelling, diving, and kayaking. There is an artificial reef section as well as natural reef just off the coastline in Palm Beach. Some sections are as shallow as five metres, and other areas are up to twenty four metres deep. You can catch sight of spectacular tropical fish, stingrays, leopard sharks and wobbegongs, among others.
Coolangatta, Rainbow Bay, and Snapper Rocks
Further south you can find some of the most iconic surf spots on the Gold Coast, as well as sheltered beaches where you can really kick back and relax. Coolangatta is just minutes from the Gold Coast Airport, and is a great place to enjoy a little retail therapy at The Strand or grab a bite to eat. Choose from trendy cafe’s and restaurants along the esplanade, or head to Coolangatta Surf Club and take advantage of the sensational views.
Rainbow Bay stretches between Snapper Rocks and Greenmount Point, and offers sheltered swimming conditions with turquoise blue water and long stretches of white sand perfect for sinking your toes into. Smaller children adore this lifeguard patrolled beach, as there are frequently sand banks that create warm and shallow wading pools to play in, and the waves at Rainbow Bay are much gentler, making it the perfect spot for kids to practice catching waves.
Snapper Rocks to the south of Rainbow Bay is a great place for experienced surfers to ride some of the longest waves in the world. It starts off The Superbank, a 2km stretch of idyllic surfing conditions that runs up to Kirra Beach and Coolangatta. The annual World Surf Leagues’ Quiksilver and Roxy Pros are hosted in this location, so if you get the chance to experience it for yourself you certainly won’t regret it.
